A Galactic Harp is intended to act as a kind of aural confluence of the scientific and the divine. It plays off the notion of space as both celestial and unfathomable. Eleven recorded sounds from outer space acquired from the University of Iowa, Maarble Public Outreach, and Nasa Inspire web sites, were melded with the heavenly strains of an autoharp. Some of the sounds were used in their raw form and others processed with filters. The blending together of these diverse otherworldly elements creates a soundscape that surprisingly resembles earthly sounds found in nature: insects chirping, breathing, the wind, bird calls. A Galactic Harp is intended to lull the listener into a tranquil state where inner and outer space converge.
